About the Author

Catherine A. Sandersonis Poler Family Professor of Psychology at Amherst College. Her research has received grant funding from the NSF and the NIH. Professor Sanderson has published numerous journal articles and four college textbooks, including Psychology in Action, Real World Psychology, and the first edition of Psychological Science. Her work on integrating DEI into Introduction to Psychology courses has been presented at national conferences and featured in the APA’s IPI Course Design Institute.

Karen R. Huffman is Professor Emerita of Psychology at Palomar College, where she taught full-time until 2010 and served as the psychology student advisor and co-coordinator for psychology faculty. She is the author of several textbooks, including Psychology in Action, Real World Psychology, and the first edition of Psychological Science. Professor Huffman is a recipient of the American Psychological Association’s National Teaching Award for Excellence in Community/Junior College Teaching.

New to Edition

ALSO NEW IN THE 4TH EDITION

In addition to updated research citations throughout the text, many from within the past five or six years, updated and revised figures, new photos, and new featured studies, the following changes have been made.

  • Organizational Changes: Social Psychology appears earlier in the sequence of topics (Chapter 10), with Sex, Gender and Sexuality moving to Chapter 15, and Industrial/Organizational Psychology is now a fully integrated Chapter 16.
  • Modular Organization: Each chapter is divided into a series of Modules, each with clearly stated learning objectives. Supporting resources, including Test Bank and other question sets, are organized in alignment with the modular structure of the text, making it easy to adapt to any course syllabus.
  • Expanded Research Challenge Activities: The Research Challenge has been a popular feature of Real World Psychology and is now expanded and included with the Retrieval Practice at the end of each Module.
